I’m writing this blog post at my desk in North London, on the eve of my first week as a PhD student. Reflecting on my academic life, from GCSEs to my undergraduate degree, has made me think a lot about teaching, what it means to be a good teacher, and how I can use my...Sunny graduated from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK with a master’s degree in Forensic Science. He also held a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, from San Jose State University in San Jose, California.
Sunny attend Yew Chung International School and he was awarded A* in Cambridge International Maths in IGCSE. He is familiar with the IGCSE courses system and graduated with prominent results in regular maths, additional maths, chemistry and physics. He is passionate in teaching and leading youngsters, he was a camp leader in YMCA of Hong Kong summer camp from 2009 to 2017. With the last three years leading all English speaking camps, organised and lead children aged from 6 to 14.
Currently studying in Cambridge as a Math undergraduate, Trevor has been awardees of many local Math competitions, including Hang Lung Mathematics Awards (Honorable Mention), IMO Hong Kong Screening (Gold), Pui Ching Invitational Mathematics Competition (Gold), Secondary School Mathematics and Science Competition (Math, Physics, Chem: Gold), etc.
He is very passionate about Mathematics, and firmly believes that the love of Math is essential for learning it. At the age of 10, he read the book Prime Obsession, an award-winning book introducing the famous Riemann hypothesis, and has since been in love with Math, reading even more books, including Trigonometric Delights and e: The Story of A Number.
He is particularly interested in communicating the love of Math to others, which prompts him to be active on an intellectual forum, Quora, illustrating the beauty of Math to others; as well as starting a YouTube channel Mathemaniac, sharing some novel Math knowledge outside normal curriculum in schools.
Katie graduated with honours from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, holding a degree in English.
Katie is an enthusiastic private tutor with extensive tutoring experience. Her students come from major international schools and top local schools. She has extensive knowledge of various curricula and international assessments. She also works on international school interviews and test preparation training for students in Mainland and Hong Kong.
At Alicorn Education, she specializes in international school admissions advisory.
Iris majored in English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, specializing in Linguistics and English Literature. Amidst her study at CUHK, she was awarded the Language Prize and the Department/Programme Scholarship. In her final year, she obtained the chance to further her study in English at the Aston University in Birmingham, UK through an exchange programme.
Iris attended Maryknoll Convent School and attained A in HKCEE and 8 in IELTS. Throughout her secondary school years, she has developed a passion and tremendous liking towards English. She started as a private tutor and has gained over 7 years of experience in tutoring. Upon graduation, she was determined to devote herself in education and children’s development. To date, she has taught and nurtured students ranging from P1 to S6 from both local and international schools, including DBS, MCS, VSA, SIS and more. Her students have gained 5* in English Language in HKDSE.
Iris believes that the most significant element leading to the excellence in English is to first develop an affinity towards the language. On this account, she strives to ignite students’ interest in English while ehancing their competence simultaneously.
Keith Jones studied International Business and International Relations in Keele University, UK and later went to Manchester University for a Msc in Globalisation and Development. While in University, as a native English speaker, studying with many international students, he would sometimes help improve their English skills. Along with being a coach for a university sports team, these events made him develop an interest in teaching. In 2016, he obtained a TEFL and came to Hong Kong. He has found his passion in Teaching English to the next generation. He has taught English in Hong Kong for around three years to all age groups, mostly to kindergarten and primary children.
Keith is a outgoing person, with hobbies of hiking, trying to new foods, playing Quidditch, badminton or Squash and participating in some runs or marathons. He believes teaching and learning should be a fun and enjoyable process.
Sharon attended Heep Yunn School and gained As in English in both HKCEE and HKAlevels. She graduated from CUHK with a degree in English and a minor in Fine Arts. Whilst at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, she was awarded dean list and the Ivy League exchange scholarship to study abroad at University of Pennsylvania. During her time at two top-tier universities, she has developed her passion in creative writing and poetry and won the Joy Leung Memorial Prize for Poetry.
As an private tutor, she has been working closely with parents and international school students aged 4-17 to support their academic pursuits. She has also conducted international school interview trainings for mainland students in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Her students have received offers from international schools such as Harrow, SIS, HKIS and VSA.
At Alicorn Education, she continues to offer academic coaching and provide consulting services for students.
